It Starts With a Need
It’s finally time. You have stubbed your toe on that weird wall for the last time. The bowl that doesn’t let the cabinet close all the way has broken you. The temporary stack of boxes has become a landmark by which you remember where you left your keys. But no more! Something must be done, and you’re ready to do it. But How?
Renovator to the Rescue
Whether you find us at a home expo, a home improvement store, or just googled blindly, the next step is getting us to look at your project. Usually a phone call, text or consultation request on the website will do the trick. We come out and look at your project, listen to your needs, and ask questions to determine the full scope of the project. From there we can give you a ballpark estimate of what your proposal will cost. An itemized bid will be calculated later if hired. This lets you consider our offer along with any others you may be shopping.
You have chosen…
If you decide to go with our bid, then Congratulations! You have chosen wisely. Now we get into the details. This usually starts with an earnest payment that lets us get started. This is when you receive your detailed estimate and can make any changes to fine tune the final number. Now we get any engineers, architects or other specialists involved, take measurements for custom build items and pull necessary permits.
And So It Begins
Once the approval and final plans get the greenlight, we set up any dust mitigation barriers if needed, call in a dumpster, and start demolition or setting up the layout. This is where the excitement begins. The project is finally starting!
What Have I Done!
The walls are removed, the hole is dug, the outlets are outside the wall for some reason and you are beginning to have palpitations. Seeing the inside of the walls just feels wrong somehow. The disquiet begins as you second guess if that really was a load bearing wall, or thinking “are these guys really qualified to do this?” These sentiments are nearly universal among homeowners and it is completely normal to feel this way. If you have questions or just need reassurance, don’t hesitate to talk to us. Renovation is often a roller coaster of emotions that you may find yourself cycling through more than once as it moves from phase to phase. It is one of the largest expenditures many people find themselves committing to and there is no shortage of bad contractor horror stories on the internet.
Phase to Phase
Depending on how complex your project is, there may be many phases. As we enter into new areas of the project and must purchase materials or bring in a sub-contractor, there will likely be a related draw request. That is, a check to cover the expense of that phase of the project. This request will be made by the GC (General Contractor) unless he has appointed a project manager to do this which will be discussed with you in advance. Each project is unique and sometimes phases will have necessary overlap as often one task must wait on another to finish before proceeding.
The Finish Line
Regardless of the size of your project, you may begin to feel as if an eternity has passed as we close in on the final stages of the job. The annoying plastic zip door you’ve been using starts to feel like it was always there. In some cases, you’ve adjusted to living in half a house. This is when you walk the site wondering why nothing is getting DONE. Can’t it just be over?
Soon.
Finish work is detail work and doesn’t have the dramatic effect that demo and framing has when the project is beginning. But once the plastic comes down and the touchups are done, and you take your first tentative steps into what was once a veritable disaster area, that’s where it becomes real again. It may take some time to readjust. You get your furniture moved in, you begin living in the area again and that’s when it hits you. It was all worth it. You find yourself smiling every time you walk through. Your friends, coworkers and the banker are just smilingly politely now when you tell them for the 100th time about the project. Since you’ve already told everyone you know, now is your chance to tell everyone else, by leaving us a five star review on our google profile! At the close of your project you will be given a QR code that will take you directly to our review page where you can shamelessly rave to the whole world about how awesome your house is.
